"Beer Shower" Photo by Charles Gekler
October 2, 1959, autographed by Al Smith
$30.00
In
the 5th inning of Game 2 of the 1959 World Series, Al
Smith received a beer shower from a fan while Smith was
trying to catch a home run ball hit by Dodger's Charley
Neal.
Al
Smith started his career in the Negro Leagues in 1947.
Smith was traded to the White Sox in 1957. His
addition helped propel the team to the Pennant two years
later. The 1959 White Sox were known as the
"Go-Go Sox" relying on speed on the base
paths. According to Manager Al Lopez,
"Acquiring Al Smith was the key to winning the '59
Pennant."
